Thanks for OGG formated content.play roulettepoker reviewsplay blackjackonline video pokerdownload divx movie

Thanks

I should also like to thank you for providing your content in the OGG media formats.

Re: Thanks

Hello Saulgoode,

You are entirely welcome. Providing Ogg/Theora does require an extra step (unfortunately, it doesn't get automatically converted) but it's the right thing to do. In any case, I'm happy to provide it.  Thanks for watching. Keep on watching. Tell your friends, relatives, etc. [ insert appropriate smiley here ]

re: nice show

Hello mrgn0m3,

Thanks for the kind words. Your French language podcast link is kind of hidden in your nick, so I am reposting it here so that people can find it: Ubuncast.net podcast link. Good luck with it and thanks for watching the show.

File Format

Fantastic show.

You do a great job and I look forward to the show each time, however
it is my belief that all of the formats the show is released in are patent encumbered

With a fresh Ubuntu Intrepid install, totem wants to download:
to play the avi: gstreamer-ffmpeg and gstreamer-ugly
to play the m4v: gstreamer-ffmpeg and gstreamer-bad
to play the flv: gstreamer-ffmpeg and gstreamer-bad
to play the mp3: gstreamer-ffmpeg and gstreamer-ugly

Some countries allow patents on software, and freely redistributable software like Ubuntu cannot pay for patent licenses. If you are in one of these jurisdictions, you can buy licensed media playback plug-ins from the Canonical Store. Otherwise, select a free plug-in above to install it.

Fortunately I am in such a country.

Would you be able to release the show in a free file format such as ogg theora/vorbis as well please.

First off, thank you very much for writing. I'm thrilled that you like the show. Tell all your friends and everyone else you know! [ insert appropriate smiley here ]

Regarding file formats, you cut me to the quick, Sir! But I do understand, so starting with today's show, and the one you commented on, I am now providing links to Ogg/Theora downloads as well. Blip.tv doesn't do Ogg/Theora conversions for me so I need to produce a second file, but your point is well taken. Damn be to those proprietary codecs! More to the point, damn be to the companies, laws, governments, etc, that make it illegal to install the necessary software that makes viewing those proprietary formats possible. Down with the DMCA! Down with Bill C-61!

There. I feel much better now.
